The goal of my sound experience was to encapsulate a typical night at my house (which is what the “204” alludes to in the title). I tried to create a bell curve of both volume and amount of sound occurring throughout the project since that is how my night goes. As I get back from either classes or work, the house has a calm atmosphere but then slowly builds to an epicenter of activity, movement, and sounds.

I focused on something generic like a typical night at home because I drew inspiration from John Cage’s art process in sound. He challenges what listeners consider music and each piece has an element of grateful presence embedded in them. I chose a mundane night because it allowed me to slow down and really appreciate what is going on during my nighttime routine; it gave me permission to snap myself back into the present.
